Pictures of Education
Hi! Thanks for the return visit!
What does good teaching and learning look like? In my job I get to spend a good deal of time in buildings and classrooms ranging from preschool through 12th grade and it is always interesting to see what is going on. When real learning and teaching are going on it is easy to spot because both students and teacher are engaged in the learning process. The pictures below are not from a building classroom but they capture the essence and spirit of students and teachers who have the love for learning and sense of wonder and awe they bring with them. It really doesn’t matter what subject or level you teach, these pictures say it all.

Student Engagement

The Guide on the Side
This is a tough transition for lots of teachers to make. Going from being in front of students, lecturing, and being the one with the knowledge who gives it to others is the traditional picture of teaching. When the paradigm shift is made to focusing on student learning, the role of the teacher becomes more like a coach or guide. This allows students more freedom and choice not only in what they are learning but how they actually go about the process.

Cooperative Learning
Students need to be able to work together in a team environment. Collaborating together on learning projects is good practice for future work places that will require employees to complete work assignments as part of a team. Learning can also be accelerated and enhanced when it becomes a collaborative process.
